hazwopper certification

Does anyone know a good place in NYC to get the Hazwopper certification? If not I saw a lot of places online that offer them. Are those any good? Thank you.

Geology in the Sinai Peninsular.

The current volcanic eruption in Iceland has meant that a huge cloud of ash is drifting south towards Britain.
The pictures are very dramatic, and this set me to wonder.

in the Bible , we are told that the Israelites left Egypt and followed a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of smoke by day.

When they arrrived at mount Sinai, it says that the mountain shook, and there was a booming sound like thunder as Moses went up the mountain and spoke with  God. ( Exodus 19 ; 18-20 are the verses to read.

I am wondering - was this an active volcano at about 1500 BC? could it be that an active volcano was what Moses took his people to?

I'm trying to guess what sort of time compression is on this video of flowing lava. Anyone have a guess? It's not indicated on the video itself.

Chilean city of Concepcion moved 3 m West by earthquake.

The magnitude 8.8 quake that struck near Maule, Chile, Feb. 27 moved the entire city of Concepcion 10 feet to the west.

Precise GPS measurements from before and after the earthquake, the fifth largest ever recorded by seismographs, show that the country’s capital, Santiago, moved 11 inches west. Even Buenos Aires, nearly 800 miles from the epicenter, shifted an inch.

holy wow - 8.8 in Chile

There was an 8.8 off the coast of Chile a few hours ago, followed by a 6.9 aftershock. Undoubtedly there will be more aftershocks to come.

News article here.

Link to USGS South American Map here.

Details for the 8.8 here.

I was in Santiago a few winters ago - very hard to look at the images of all the damage. I sincerely hope the death toll remains low.

SCA internships

Has anyone done these? I am applying for the first time and I read the FAQ but I am looking more for advice from people who have done them before. Thank you.

Also, has anyone done internships in the Everglades? I applied for a hydrology position for the summer there as well. (The Everglades doesn't appear to go through the SCA so I applied there directly.)

Well...

This article has been passed around by some of my friends at school...

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/01/07/cataclysm-killed-dinos-taking-lives-today/

Oddly enough, my friend just posted a comment on Facebook defending watching Fox News. Admittedly, I do not often follow the news (which makes me a loser) and my perception of Fox News was based solely on others' opinions, but this article will likely forever cloud my trust of Fox News.
